Dr Tan Jia Ying graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery. While in school, she was on the Dean’s list for three consecutive years, and was awarded the Wrigley Company Book Prize, Singapore Dental Association President’s Medal and Prize, Vellasamy Prize, and 3rd place for her Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme group project.
After graduation, Dr Tan served her bond in National Healthcare Group Polyclinics, School Dental Service, Health Promotion Board and National Dental Center (NDC), where she gained experience in general dentistry for adults and kids. In NDC, she worked in the Oral Surgery, Endodontic, Prosthodontic, Periodontic and Urgent Care departments where she honed her skills in advanced dental procedures such as root canals, crowns, dentures, and managing gum disease and dental emergencies. During her time in NDC, Dr Tan managed an unusual case and along with some esteemed colleagues, she published a research paper titled ‘Gingival Necrosis Related to Sepsis-Induced Agranulocytosis Due to Pseudomonas aeruginosa Bacteraemia: A Case Report’ in the Journal of Clinical Medicine.
Dr Tan strongly believes in patient education and raising awareness for oral health. Dr Tan also strives to provide a wider range of treatment for her patients and attends courses and conferences both locally and internationally to keep abreast of the latest developments in dentistry. In her spare time, Dr Tan enjoys making memes on her private Instagram page, playing the trumpet in a community wind ensemble and being a slave to two crazy bunnies.
